Perspective

I hope his mind has mercy on my heart
because one more crack
and it's falling apart
There are splinters, chips, and nicks galore
I'm sure of it
It can't take much more
From lie wounds and cheat holes
to abandonment scratches
It's only held together by compliment patches
Random kind words hold it loosely as one
but one more offense
and my poor heart is done

I hope she's not too damaged
to accept real love
to know she's worth me going beyond and above
No lumping me in
With the dudes of her past
Giving a fair chance for us to last
Understanding she's been hurt
is of utmost importance
Hurting her again; I just can't afford it
Hoping she doesn't put up a wall
I'll approach her and see
just where the chips fall
