I'm going to cut to the chase. I saw the previews for Insecure months before the premiere, but never really locked in the date. I was definitely interested, but just didn't commit it to memory. Last week, I noticed it trending on Twitter and knew that I was missing the premiere (bummer). As bummed as I was to have missed viewing it with everybody else, I figured I'd catch it On Demand during the week and watch it live for the rest of the season. With all that being said, I'll say I could literally kick myself for missing the premiere after catching up tonight!
The first 10 minutes of the show made me realize rather quickly that Issa Rae is my spirit animal. I can literally set a section aside on this site for clips from Insecure that start discussions. There's so much jam packed in the 30 minute episodes that it's crazy. In 30 minutes they touch on black men preferring to date outside their race, dating a man forever and still not being married, the man that's on the cusp of his "big break" that's being supported by his woman, the horrible dating scene for educated black women, the never ending search for Mr. Right, and acting cool while everyone around you is getting engaged/married. (That's only naming the one's I can remember).
Let's just say hilarity ensued. Nothing's funnier than something that you can identify with. Issa is hitting so many nails on the head that it's really just one big wack-a-mole fest. I'm here for it all. Those mirror rap/pep talks had me dying. Nothing's more hilarious than an awkward person being in there feelings. That's absolutely me and some (or most) of you. Anyway... just watch the show on Sunday's at 10:30 ET so we can discuss!
